Idea
Summer of love... These two words best describe this year’s edition of the summer concert series Pianokrąg by Bartek Wąsik. From June to September, the pianist, together with his Warsaw audience, will celebrate this time of year in the space of the Królikarnia Palace and the surrounding Sculpture Park.
The 5th edition of Pianokrąg features four concerts, including two dedicated to great female artists: Meredith Monk and Björk. Works of the former will be heard at the opening concert, during which we will hear her Piano songs (performed for the first time in Warsaw) – piano miniatures reminiscent of songs in their form and unpretentiousness. Interestingly, some of the pieces written for two pianos will be played in a version for one instrument, accompanied by a second piano part previously prepared by Wąsik. This means that the pianist will play for the first time.... with himself!
The next concert is dedicated to film music. Bartek Wąsik will perform his own arrangements of music for the film, which told with great sensitivity the story of nascent affection and desire in the summer setting: Call me by your name, directed by Luca Guadagnino.
The third concert will be dedicated to Björk. It’s also the fulfilment of Bartek Wąsik’s dream to reflect the universe of this Icelandic artist’s music in his arrangements for solo piano. The title of the concert, All is full of love, refers to one of her songs, most fully reflecting the atmosphere of the August evening and the idea behind this year’s festival.
The final concert will consist of the première performance of a new version of Bartek Wąsik's solo project, Pianorizon. In this very personal endeavour, electronics and nature sounds are woven into the sound of the piano, creating an emotional and organic whole. Pianorizon is a tribute to love and, at the same time, another strong voice from the pianist announcing his second solo album of the same title.
This year’s programme is also an expression of gratitude from Bartek Wąsik to the Warsaw audience who, over the course of five years, have enjoyed spending time together and celebrating music in the Warsaw’s Królikarnia. Pianokrąg is a space of mutual inspiration and interaction between the artist and the audience.

Pianokrąg I
MEREDITH MONK // PIANO SONGS
This year’s Pianokrąg will be opened with a concert dedicated to a versatile artist: singer, choreographer, director and, above all, one of the most important living American composers: Meredith Monk. Bartek Wąsik will perform her Piano Songs, a series of piano miniatures resembling songs in their form. Their character, full of lyricism, but also energising motility, is truly endearing. Their unpretentiousness and sincerity reflect the power of Meredith Monk’s unique style. Interestingly, some of the pieces written for two pianos will be played in a version for one instrument, accompanied by a second piano part previously prepared by Wąsik. This means that the pianist will play for the first time.... with himself! This experiment will be witnessed by the audience gathered at the concert. Therefore... Celebrating the fifth edition of the Pianokrąg, we’ll begin with songs for piano to open ourselves to everything that summer brings.

Pianokrąg II
CALL ME BY YOUR NAME
Can music convey the character of the passing summer months and recall not only images, but also smells? In line with the tradition of performing music written for films (last year these were the works of Preisner, Kilar and Sakamoto), Bartek Wąsik now pays tribute to the soundtrack of a film that poignantly talked about the emerging feeling and desire in the environment of full summer: Call me by your name directed by Luka Guadagnino. This track consists of many compositions: Both classical, written by composers whom we already heard at the Pianokrąg (Bach, Ravel, Adams, Sakamoto), as well as iconic Italian songs from the 1980s and contemporary songs created by Sufjan Stevens, among others. Bartek Wąsik will perform his own arrangements of these pieces, intertwined with the music by Ravel and Sakamoto. Through the sounds and music, we’ll be witnesses and companions of the nascent and maturing feeling between the main characters of the film: Elio and Oliver.

Pianokrąg III
BJÖRK // ALL IS FULL OF LOVE
August is the apogee of summer, so this month Bartek Wąsik wants to evoke the music of another artist, after Meredith Monk, whose work entered the phase of full maturity. One could write endlessly about her achievements and influence on music or even pop culture at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Or maybe it’s enough to put it all in those five characteristic letters that say it all: BJÖRK. The third Pianokrąg concert will be a personal tribute to her music, but also a fulfilment of the dream of Wąsik, who for several years had the idea to use his beloved piano to convey Björk’s music to the Pianokrąg audience. The title of the concert refers to one of the Icelandic artist's songs, the character of which perfectly reflects the atmosphere of an August evening.

Pianokrąg IV
BARTEK WĄSIK // PIANORIZON
The fourth concert, summarizing this year’s series, will be the première of Bartek Wąsik’s latest project: Pianorizon (Pianokrąg). The consistency between its name and the name of the whole event is by no means accidental. Pianorizon is a very personal project, containing original compositions composed entirely by Wąsik. The sounds of the piano are mixed here with a subtle electronic layer, the sounds of nature, which the pianist captured during field recordings. Atmospheric themes and musical motifs intertwine in different variants, becoming the musical motto of the artist engraved in the sounds. In the main artistic assumption, Pianorizon is also a great tribute to love, perfectly fitting in and summarizing this year’s narrative of the cycle. The concert will also announce the second solo album by Bartek Wąsik of the same title.
