Bartek Wąsik

Pianokrąg

Idea

This year’s edition of Bartek Wąsik’s brainchild “Pianokrąg” will provide an oppor-tunity for the pianist to share his artistic inspirations with the public, while showing the power of illustrative music. This is one of the ideas behind the series of concerts held in the Królikarnia palace in Warsaw that has always been met with apprecia-tion by the local public.

This year, the event will open with a special concert commemorating a recently de-ceased Ryuichi Sakamoto. The world learnt of the artist’s demise this spring. Two years ago, Bartek Wąsik presented his own interpretations of the Japanese com-poser’s work. His performance proved to be hugely popular with the audience and saw a record-high attendance. This year’s concert programme consists of a dozen or so compositions, including several new pieces that were not performed in 2021. The opening concert is meant as a tribute to the Japanese composer.

The remaining concerts will revolve around the music of three Polish composers: Wojciech Kilar, Zbigniew Preisner and Paweł Mykietyn. During this year’s edition of the event, the Warsaw-based pianist is going to show how their work inspired him as a musician. Whenever these three names are mentioned, cinema automatically comes to mind. Can we imagine Krzysztof Kieślowski’s films without the austere or monumental music by Zbigniew Preisner? Isn’t it true that the works by Wojciech Kilar immediately conjure up images from the movies by Andrzej Wajda or Francis Ford Coppola?

For the first time in the event’s history, Bartek Wąsik will present such a wide selec-tion of works by Polish composers; the audience will surely appreciate quality, power and originality of the compositions.
